Dedicated to the millions of people living with HIV/AIDS in the world, Fundamentals of Global HIV Medicine serves as an essential resource to the global HIV practitioner.

The vast majority of HIV-infected individuals live in the poorest countries of the world, which have severely constrained resources and enormous challenges to providing HIV treatment and care services. There is an urgent need in these countries for a massive scale-up of human resources for health, including a need for educational and training programs to build a critical mass of healthcare professionals necessary to meet the continuing needs of HIV/AIDS programs and ensure positive long-term outcomes.

Most currently available textbooks on HIV/AIDS have addressed the topic predominantly within the context of resource-rich settings. However, the challenges posed by the management of HIV/AIDS in a resource-constrained setting are quite different than what is experienced in developed countries. HIV-associated conditions may differ in their prevalence, presentation and relevance. The therapies and diagnostic modalities utilized in the West are often not available or financially feasible in developing countries. With contributions from 62 authors practicing in more than 15 countries, Fundamentals of Global HIV Medicine is specifically designed to address this gap in educational offerings to HIV care providers in resource-constrained settings.
